5 Stages of Group Development:
Forming ~ Storming ~ Norming ~ Performing ~ Transforming
Drawing on the research of Bruce Tuckman and Mary Ann Jenson, Michelle will present an overview of the Stages of Group Development and describe how teams typically progress through each stage. She will also introduce activities that help identify where groups currently are in their development process, as well as activities that foster some of the skills necessary to more effectively – and a little less painfully - move the group through the stages and ultimately towards their peak potential.
Nearly all groups and teams will evolve through the various stages of development, whether they are conscious of it or not. The value in utilizing this model is not to merely apply labels to the group process, but rather to give the group access to meaningful insights about their progress and process.
This webinar will also provide participants with tools and techniques that will aid them as group facilitators, providing tips on how to effectively coach the groups they work with through the various stages. Tuckman theorized that groups need to experience all of the stages before they can achieve maximum effectiveness; therefore, no stage should be rushed through or overlooked. Some stages of group development are more comfortable than others, and knowing your role(s) as facilitator in each stage is key to the successful transition through each phase.
